DVD-Video Ripper App Reviews
Crash!!
Does not work for me. It crashed every time on my computer. Not worth the trouble. Complete waste of time.
Works fine!
Works just fine. I wish for more output formats tho (mkv, iso, etc.)
Tells you to add a file, won’t add a file
It tells you to add a file, tried the IFO, tried the disc folder. It selects them, then tells you to add a file. It doesn’t work...
Doesn’t work for me
I got the Intel-based warning, then tried to run the app twice on my Tahoe machine. Both times it started, then crashed, with an error dialog. It’s gone now.
Puzzled
I'll be the first to admit I am not a digital genius, but this is a DVD to MP4 app and there is a direction on the app to "Load Disk." I have an external drive so I insert the disk (which is a shiny physical platter, right?) and then I choose a destination as well as the profile and I click on CONVERT. Now I get a notice that says to "add files." What files? A digital file? Of what--the movie I want to convert? If I had a digital copy of the movie, not sure I'd need to convert... There are no other options and I have no idea what to do.
Everything I need!!!
This is great! Thank you! I have a bunch of iDVD discs that I burned about 15 years ago, and now I can digitize them and throw them on a hard drive! They are all 480 res, but this application is able to make them 720 and it looks pretty good!!! Well done!! 👏👏👏
DOESN'T WORK WITH OLD DVD's
So I have a bunch of old DVD's that were recorded from church. These DVD's are about 6-10 years old. I downloadd this to see if it could convert them to any type of format, but it was unable to do so. I tried several of the DVD's I have. The file format of the files on the DVD I'm trying to convert are .VOB files, but this app could not even recognize them. I'm sure this is a great app for other conversions, but they haven't added the ability to convert .VOB file types from DVD's
works OK
Slower than I thought, but hey, for free, and turn a DVD into a MP4, works for what I need. Only took 3 attempts to figure out best conversion.
Doesn't work.
Tells you to add files, then tells you that every file you can possibly try to load is an "invalid folder."
Worked good!
It did what I needed it for.
Easy
Did exactly what is says it does! Very happy.
Good app. Does what it says
Ok, so originally I was not so pleased and gave it a bad review, but have since discovered it was a PEBKAC issue (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair) and have changed my tune. Good app, worth $12.95.
Conversion of a DVD to mp4
I had a VHS tape and I used a Samsung VHS to DVD converter (which will play either VHS tapes or DVD's to my home TV). In order to use the DVD-Video Ripper I had to: 1) put the DVD into my DVD player on my Mac 2) Highlight the DVD icon and choose duplicate from the pull down "file" menu (this gave me a folder) 3) then I had to make a new folder for the destination mp4 file on the desktop 4) then I clicked on the disk icon in the upper left corner of the DVD-ripper page and selected the source folder 5) then I clicked convert and the software created an mp4 file in the destination folder. The Mac wouldn't play it because it said that it violated my security preferences because it is from an unknown developer. I opened security preferences and it gave me an option to open the file anyway and then the mp4 file played on my Mac. I took it to my class and it played on the PC instructors station. The instructions could be a little more precise indicating that the source needs to be a file in a folder, not a DVD in the DVD player on the Mac. But it worked nicely when I figured out how to wire around the problem of not being able to select my DVD directly.
Decent app, nonexistent customer support
I downloaded this app four days ago and got completely stuck on Step One. When I loaded my DVD I got an error message about loading its ‘root file.’ None of the files listed for my DVD seemed to qualify as the root file, and all the icons remained grayed out. I sent an email to Aiseesoft asking for help and got this in response: ‘Dear customer, At first, we are so sorry to tell you that now all relevant DVD Ripper had been removed from our site, so there is no any other access to purchase and download such products. We will mainly focus on developing some more new products to satisfy need for our customers. In fact, there are still many other products besides DVD products in our site, and we do hope that we will still have the honor to be supported by you in the future. Aiseesoft Studio will still work hard to bring you better products.’ Bottom line? They are too busy developing new stuff to be bothered with customer support for the stuff that is already available in the App Store. But my goodness, they hope to be supported by me in the future! Not. A. Chance. And somehow, don’t ask me how I did it, I got the DVD loaded correctly and saved a clip from a home movie to my laptop and then to my phone. I am grateful that this app exists, but I have no use for a developer that doesn’t provide any help whatsoever to its customers. Totally unacceptable.
Doesn’t finish
Out of 2 hours and 43 minutes, converted only 2 hours and 39 minutes. Hate missing the end of the movie.
Perfect!
This is exactly what I needed to take my exercise video along with me on a trip. It was fast, easy, flawless. Thank you!
Inconsistent subtitle rendering/"winking"
On the one hand, it's a fast and fairly easy tool for converting DVD to other formats. Not being able to use custom presets (in the free version) is a minor hassle sometimes, but understandable. Subtitles are a fairly big issue, unfortunately. For one thing, you can't embed subtitle tracks in your finished conversion -- you can only burn them in, even when the format allows embedded subtitles. This isn't a deal-breaker for me, but it might be for others. You can only choose one audio stream and one subtitle track for the converted file you're making, and I don't see any evidence that you can do more than that with the paid version of this program. The real problem, though, is that the program is terribly inconsistent about rendering those subtitle tracks -- in at least half the conversions I tried, there were entire sections of dialogue where the subtitles winked on and off, far too quickly for anyone to be able to read them. It didn't happen all the time, and it didn't happen in every subtitled DVD I converted, but it happened often enough to make the program unsuitable for my needs. In short: it's good for simple conversions, with some good customization options at that level, but intermediate users and above will probably want to look elsewhere.
no Luck
I created a DVD-R and had no trouble copiing it on my Mac but this software deemed it Invalid and would not rip a movie.
Wouldn’t work
We had our camcorder videos converted to DVD. I wanted to convert them to iMovie to edit them, but this said the DVD was “protected content”. Again, this is of my kids, NOT a movie.
Didn’t load menu
I tried multiple times and it could not read the menu, so it could not copy the DVD.
Wont Copy protected DVD
I have some Disney Movies I wanted to copy over to my PLEX media servers so I didn’t have to use a dvd player and it won’t copy those and give a warning they are protected. Just an FYI if anyone else is going to do anything similar.
awesome
This was great. I lost a movie I created in imovie and only had a dvd so I downloaded this application and saved the file to my desktop. So easy to use.
Load disc
I just downloaded your app and tried to rip a dvd. I keep getting a message to load the root object of DVD or DVD Folder, or you will be loading failed. What does that mean? I can’t find anything that shows me how to troubleshoot.
used it for home movies
easy to use and works great!!!
Invalid selection
I recorded a DVD-R which worked on standard DVD players including my laptop. I selected the DVD drive to try and rip the movie to the computer, but it said my selection was invalid. I had no other possible selections to make. I gave up on it.
It’s wonderful
perfect, did it fast and put them into mov for me
wow thank you
i am making a memorial slideshow and wanted to use some computer generated movies my friend made and couldn’t get the clips off the dvd and this worked perfectly and it was fast. I was nervous as it was free but it worked and now my slideshow is going to be extra special.
Used once - perfect
Just downloaded the product and it worked exactly as expected. Fast ripping. Titles were only 33min, 3 and 2 mins. Need to use it on a full-length movie file next, but perfect operation for how I used it. I wonder when it will prompt me to pay to continue to use it???
Simple to use, works well
This app works very well, at least for unprotected DVDs. (Can’t speak to protected DVDs, as I haven’t tried such.) Simple interface, very easy to use, works quickly, and produces files that are half the size (!), at the same quality, as another app I had been using.
Worked Great!
Very easy to use and worked great. Thanks!
Tells you to add a file, won’t add a file
It tells you to add a file, tried the IFO, tried the disc folder. It selects them, then tells you to add a file. It doesn’t work...
